Each Spring, volunteers in Sonoma County get trained by the IRS to prepare tax returns. The program is called VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). These volunteers can help you prepare your tax returns for free if you earned less that $49,000.
Call 2-1-1 or visit www.211wc.org for more information and to make an appointment.
VITA volunteers want you to know that low to moderate income working individuals and families may qualify for a special tax credit called the Earned Income Tax Credit. EITC can reduce your taxes and result in a refund. The maximum amount of the credit for 2010 was $5,666. In California, the average refund was $2,194.
Each year, 20-25% of Americans do not claim the EITC- don't be one of them! Get the tax refund you deserve- make an appointment to see a VITA volunteer by contacting 2-1-1.
